What Does a Traditional Ritual Offering Look Like?
This picture shows an example of ritual offering prepared according to the healing tradition entrusted to me. We call this in Bisaya as "halad".

The ritual offering is more than the animal sacrifice. It is the whole holy offering, which is prepared with prayer, respect, and devotion before the ritual begins.
Depending on the purpose of the ceremony, it may include a ritual offering The:
- Boiled meat without salt or any seasoning
- Rice
- Egg
- Fruits
- Candles lit
- Incense or ritual smoke
- Other offerings according to our clan's tradition
One of the unique customs of our clan is boiling meat without salt or spices. According to the teachings we have inherited, the sacred offerings are presented in their most natural form. In our tradition, it is believed that this preparation is the most appropriate and acceptable as an offering to the spiritual beings to whom prayer is addressed.
The candle and the Incense smoke rising are also considered offerings. They symbolize prayer, respect, and communication with the spiritual world.
Depending on the purpose of the ritual, prayers may be offered to God, to those holy (saint and saint), in spirits of the dead, in spirits of the living, in fairy tales, or to other spiritual beings recognized in our tradition. Each ritual offering has its own purpose, prayer, and method of practice.
Not all ritual offering are similar in form. The offerings, prayers, candles, smoke, and even the time of performance can vary depending on the purpose of the ritual and the practitioner's customs. Some offerings are performed in the morning or during the day, and some are also performed at night.
In the past, when companions participated in the ritual, it was usually followed by a meal as an expression of gratitude and unity. Nowadays, I usually perform these rituals alone in private, but I continue to follow the teachings passed down to me by my teachers.
I share this not to encourage everyone to believe in our tradition, but to help document and preserve one of the many ancient healing traditions that have become part of Siquijor's identity as Healing Island.
